Cubit provides fluid dynamics consultancies and evaluations as well as educational training

CUBIT’s Competence Center of Fluid Dynamics (CCFD) has specific knowledge in the field of fluid dynamics and it can provide consultancies and evaluations as well as educational training.

The consulting and evaluation services can be both numerical (computational fluid dynamics – CFD) and experimental (Wind Tunnels and Naval Tanks).

The didactic training activities, based on the wide experience in the organization of Advanced Specialisation Courses and Master, offers both the theoretical-scientific knowledge in the field of fluid dynamics as well as the training on dedicated software.

The CCFD carries out its activities through the partnership with Aerodynamics’s Group of the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering  of the University of Pisa.

The center was founded in 2012 under the guide of Prof. Eng. Giovanni Lombardi, who has been its director since the beginning. In addition to being Professor of Aerodynamics of Aircraft and of the Aerodynamics of the vehicles at the University of Pisa, Prof. Lombardi has a solid experience both in numerical analysis and in the experimental tests.

Currently, 3 Senior Engineers and 5 Junior Engineers are part of the CCFD. The group is the author of numerous publications and supports various thesis in Aerospace Engineering and Engineering of the Vehicles.

The competences of the CCFD group in the experimental field are based on the organization of several test campaigns in different Wind Tunnels and Naval Tanks, both Italian and foreign. The CCFD takes care of all the phases that involve the entire test procedure.

The CCFD group has twenty-year experience in the computational field that covers various sectors (Aeronautics, Automotive, Marine, Civil and Renewable Energy, Sports) and various types of flow (external flows, internal flows - eg. Air Conditioning). The studies are executed through commercial and non commercial software, thanks to the use of high performance computing resources (HPC). The group has also acquired a solid expertise in CFD valuations used in combination with numerical optimization techniques and/or structural analysis.

The CCFD in these years has collaborated on numerous projects both academic research than industrial research, in the areas Aeronautics, Automotive, Marine, Civil and Renewable Energy, Sportsman. The group has worked closely not only with companies located in the surrounding areas but also with the major global players in the various sectors involved.[…]

The CCFD uses high level workstations and a computing environment, completely dedicated to the group, with high-performance computing (HPC) and to the top of the available technologies, thanks to quick interconnection and low latency networks (InfiniBand DDR and QDR ), thus providing support to research through supercomputing and its applications. The CCFD also offers advanced Utility Computing Services'(ie. Rent of Clusters).[…]

The experience of the CCFD group in the context of unmanned aircraft involves multiple phases of the same project: from theoretical study, to performance analysis up to implementation and flight test. […]
